Key Identification Features [edit]
The male has a crimson cap, black mask and pale greyish-white bill. There are white marks on the back and on the tertials. The name comes from the black girdle acroos the white underparts which tend to become yellowish on the lower belly adjacent to the red undertail coverts. The throat is cinnamon coloured but can look different if stretched.
The female seems to have a darker throat as well as having an all-black crown.

The Black-girdled Barbet is distributed in a relatively small area in south-west Amazonia mainly in Brazil but partly in Bolivia.
Habitat: estuary, rainforest, mountains, desert etc [edit]
Found in forest canopy but spreads into secondary woodland where there are fruiting trees
